The mighty medicinal Chaga Mushroom (Inonotus obliquus) is a large black-hued basidiocarp native to northern regions of Asia, Europe, and North America. Chaga looks more like a burnt growth on the trunk of a birch tree than a "traditional" mushroom. Due to Chaga’s high melanin content, its exterior turns a coal-black color in the sun, while the inside stays a warm ochre color.
